This year's Mop has
been renamed 'The Sodbury Shop and Mop Fair' to assist with publicising
local traders, and will take place on the weekend of September 21st and

The
Mop Fair has been visiting (and taking over) Chipping Sodbury's medieval
High Street for many years. The spring Mop usually takes place over the
last Friday and Saturday in March, and the Autumn Mop over the last Friday
and Saturday in September.

The
Mop comprises a good selection of the usual shooting, fishing, and bow
& arrow type stalls with prizes from the usual goldfish to the topical
(this year it was inflatable Bugs Life characters), exhilarating rides
(some of which have to be seen to be believed) including the archetypal
Dodgems and Waltzers, some excellent and varied fast food stalls, excellent
childrens rides, houses of mirrors/fun/horrors and of course the video
arcades.

Throughout
the festival, which is attended by people from all over the region, the
High Street is partially closed off to traffic and Broad Street is pedestrianised.
The pubs and restaurants record good trade, and the local economy in general
is boosted as a whole.
